9'9" The Thing in the works...

I am very stoked about this shape. Since there has been a lot of talk about the thing recently Johnny at Mollusk and I decided to make a stocker for their shop. The dimensions are 18 5/8" nose, 23 1/2" wide, 17 1/4" tail with the tradmark Brian Hilbers 10" wide tail block. I will post some more pictures once I get it glassed and finish the surprise gloss color work. Go to Mollusk and check out their fine selection of Finelines and Andersons that are also in stock.

Corporate America loves Davenport Longboards!

The recent holiday ad spot for Bank of America has been catching the eye of longboarders everywhere. It was filmed at  Mollusk Surf Shop and has some pretty nice rides in the background. At a closer look there happens to be a couple Davenports and Finelines! The actress in the commercial is standing in front of two Davenports, a white pig with a black stripe and a brown 4065. Thanks B of A! Oh, and don't forget to spend  this holiday season!

Johnny's Hobie Pig

Johnny at Mollusk Surf Shop had me come over and check out his bitchin' 1962 Hobie Pig. He got the board for the unbelievable price of board shorts and a pair of sandals. What a deal! This board is in great condition. I took the dimensions off of it and plan to make something very similar to it. Johnny is one of Brian Hilbers (Fineline Surfboards) chief test pilots as well as the main man at Mollusk Surf Shop in Venice Ca. Go there meet Johnny, get stoked and buy something! 4065: The El Camino of noseriders

Shred, rip, or do both, this board allows you to bust radical cutbacks, get stupid long nose rides. This by far is one of my favorite templates, because it combines the mid-to-late 1960's progressive parallel forward rail with a nice wide tail with some hip. The bottom of the board features a blended concave of 48in. , the middle of the board is flat for speed and the tail is rolled with the rails turned up to a small 50/50 rail line. The overall rail is 50/50 of medium thickness to allow for better nose riding and classic style. I do not believe in turned down rails 60/40 or sharp edges in my rails, screw that shit!!! All classic boards that are great nose riders do not have turned down rails or sharp tail edges. The 4065 goes back to the mid to late 1960's where style and nose riding were the staple of surfing. As for fins for this board I like on a board that is 9'6 and up a 10.5 Rick nose rider fin, takayama pivot fin, Tyler nose rider, True Ames Heritage, all of 10.5 height. This board is designed to be surfed from the nose, 1/3rd off the nose and back on the tail. As for weight, I prefer heavy boards but for smaller people lighter foam and glass work, its a proportional rider to board.
